Budget Update
Fox C-6 Superintendent, Dr. Paul Fregeau presented the Board with an update on the District’s current financial picture. Recently, the state of Missouri decided to allow districts to utilize pre-pandemic Average Daily Attendance (ADA) calculations for the 2023-2024 school year. This will result in Fox C-6 receiving approximately $5 million in additional funding from the state that we had not planned to receive. This news decreases the potential budget deficit to $8.2 million. To help address the pending budget deficit, Dr. Fregeau revised his original financial recommendations and shared the following recommendations with the Board and Fox community:
-
A reduction of 30 certified positions. This comes to approximately a 5% reduction in administrative staff and a 3% reduction in teaching staff. This is projected to save $2.6 million dollars.
-
A reduction in the amount of levy funds allocated to Fund 4 (capital improvements) from 62 cents to 47 cents, to add an additional $1.8 million to operating funds.
-
Reduction of building budgets by at least $250,000
-
Delaying a Chromebook refresh cycle, which will save approximately $500,000
-
Exploring ways to enhance revenue through facility rentals and advertising
Additionally, Dr. Fregeau recommended that the Board of Education place a $1.0207 tax levy on the August 2023 ballot. Dr. Fregeau shared that it has been 19 years since Fox C-6 has asked the community for an increase in the operating levy. In order to place a ballot initiative on the August 2023 ballot, the Board of Education would need to approve ballot language by the May 16, 2023 Board meeting.
